Hi,
I'm using Mac OS X 10.3.8. I want to use a application with extension .jnlp
When I'm trying to open the application it is giving a error message as follows:

An error occurred while launching/running the application.

Title: DiscoverySpace
Vendor: Canada's Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre
Category: Invalid Argument error

The application has requested a version of the Java 2 platform (JRE) that is currently not locally installed. Java Web Start was unable to automatically download and install the requested version. The JRE version must be installed manually.

When I#m trying to install from apple site, it was mentioned that it comes with the Mac OS X only. Even when i try to update this, i'm not able to. Anyone have any clue how i can run this specific application?
thanking you,
with best regards,
murali

Hi,

-If you have a jre version which is older than the required one then modify the <j2se version="1.3"/> (example)to <j2se version="1.3+"/>. You might also need to play with off-line allowed and href in order to prevent the refershing of the jnlp file with the one on the server.

- If you don't have a jre version which is older or exactly the one that is required there is still something you could do. Open the jnlp file, download separately all the jars the application needs and run it as a java application on the workstation. However, you might have surprises here, and the application should not be run with an earlier jre than the required one.

Aha, that's what you could do: java applications are platform independent, so thake the downloaded jars to a Linux on Windows machine which has the needed jre. There it will run without pb.

Cristian.
