We've created a new forum to discuss all the aspects of developing games in Java! -- stuff like Game theory, interaction, design, you name it.

So, any suggestions you have about ideas for the forum, or if you have questions you're dieing to ask about how to create that killer game, have at it!

I'm just interested to see the type of discussion this forum gets.

What about killer game-related tools, like for editing maps and stuff? Is that fair game also?

You mean the creation thereof, or using an editor for commercial games? For creation of editors, I've dabbled, as, after all, the easiest way to make a level for ones game to run is the creation of an editor for the game. I'd try to answer a question on the topic of editors.

Right, the creation of tools. I'm working on a tile-based map editor and there are about a million topics I'd love to discuss. I could talk forever on rendering alone, such as how to make threaded rendering play nice with the GUI when doing things like focused zooming, what the pros and cons of different caching algorithms are, and what kind of rendering algorithms degrade well when animating a full screen of 1600x1200 tiles on multiple layers. :-)

Start a thread, and we can talk about it!

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
