I don't really find it that shocking, in the sense that it's not that unusual for people to find things wrong with something Sun's done. And I wouldn't be too optimistic about a prompt response from Sun - look at the dates of the messages, and look at how many messages are posted daily. this one, which has recently been "closed" as Sun offically acknowledged that they will never fix it. Gee, we could tell that over a year ago. When will the documentation be fixed though?
Sun has put out a
lot of stuff for
Java in the last few years, much of it for free. Much of it is good, some is not. Most gets fixed eventually, but the wait is sometimes frustrating.
