I found this one very useful.
Java Performance and Scalability Vol I Server-Side Programming Techniques
by Dov Bulka, pub by Addison-Wesley, ISBN 0-201-70429-3
Some astonishing improvements in server applications by relatively simple techniques. Lots of detailed timing went into this.

I'm reading the Dov Bulka book at the moment, I would definitely recommend it. I'm sure Jack's book is good too, I just haven't read it yet.

With a little knowledge, a cast iron skillet is non-stick and lasts a lifetime.
