Hi
I have a suggestion to place the search facility across all the pages. Right now it is only in the JavaRanch Home page.
A possible place might be below this line.
-----------
My Profile | Register | Search | FAQ | Forum Home
-----------

I don't know if others agree with me, but it is just a suggestion so that it is much easier for new members.
Regards
Lalitha

I think what lalitha is suggesting is an actual textfield and choice list right underneathe the line he pointed out. Not a link like we already have.

Perhaps. Or maybe it was a reference to our Google-based search. I'm not sure. Perhaps we can get clarification.

It was a JavaRanch (UBB) search in the beginning. For a while though we had to disable that because searches were taking up too many CPU cycles. Then some things were improved on the back end (including buying some more memory) and we were able to bring back the JavaRanch-specific search - but Google is still available. Both can be useful for different things. The JavaRanch search is better at finding all the relevant posts in a particular forum, but it can't easily search all forums. (That's still disabled, and even if it weren't it takes too long to wait for results.) Google can search all forums quickly, but it only knows about those posts that other people have linked to - so it misses a lot of stuff.

Hi
I was referring to what Gregg Bolinger talked about.

It can be a google search or JavaRanch search. But having a text field on the top would help.
But it is just a suggestion.

Lalitha
