This week's giveaway!

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Please give a big welcome to Jack Shirazi, author of "Java Performance Tuning" who is joining us for the rest of the week. Jack will be answering your questions about his book and about performance tuning in general.
On Friday we will be giving away four copies of Jack's excellent book. All on topic posts between now and Friday will be eligible to win a copy.
Our reviewer (me) gave the book an excellent rating of 9 horseshoes and had this to say, "Java Performance Tuning is a programmer's book. You are guaranteed to learn a lot of very neat and useful tricks. I doubt that there is another Java book on the market with as many "WOW!" moments in it."
Posts in this thread will not be eligible so say hi to Jack here and then start a new thread to ask Jack your questions.

Hi Jack,
Good to see u here.
I had questions for you.

1> How did the duplication of class loading make java perform slow ?
2> At what extend did the reusability of object is ok, or why not developer use cloned objects instead ?
3> Did you have any good example for jdbc connection pooling for server-side, can be use with servlet/jsp developded MVC model ?
4> how about cache more than 10000 records and putting it in session and make available all over the web application, and what will if i have 5 such cache which is in there respective session so in my current jsp i can access required data from those session (It is about e-commerce application on which im working).
5> Can i get sample chapters in pdf format from you book to get idea about your book.
with best regards,

Hi everyone,
Good to be here again. I look forward to many interesting questions.
Sanjay, the posts in this thread are not eligible for entries to the book giveaway competition, so why don't you start a new thread posting your questions, and we'll deal with them there. That way you'll get a chance at winning a copy.
Anyone who hasn't heard of JavaPerformanceTuning.com may want to check out the site. It covers a huge amount of Java performance information

Hello,
I am interested in winning your book. I have noticed that many of the principles apply also to javascript.
Local variables are fastest, string literal concatenation is faster than concatenating string variables (especially in mozilla).

I didn't buy your book because I am too poor. I just read in the book store.

Hey there!
Nice to now that there is such a book outside, as I am a student with a slow comp and always interested in getting even a weenie-bit more performance out of my crap stuff. I hope my local dealer has got it soon for a quick look in the store.
Or maybe....
Regards,
Dajin

Well, I'm afraid that I'm pretty much out of time here. I'll try to follow one or two threads if I can, but if I can't, it's been fun. Some great discussions.
Good luck all of you on winning a copy, and I wish you all success in your future careers.
