I writing a plugin to visualise hprof data - unfortunately I am having trouble understanding hprof output.
___________________________________________________________
TRACE 296:
java.lang.StringBuffer.<init>(StringBuffer.java:115)
java.lang.StringBuffer.<init>(StringBuffer.java:103)
TestHprof.makeStringInline(TestHprof.java:21)
TestHprof.main(TestHprof.java:53)
___________________________________________________________
I understand it that StringBuffer calls StringBuffer.init at line 115
and StringBuffer calls StringBuffer.init at lune 103
and StringBuffer calls makeStringInLine at line 21 ....
But how can I find out how much time is spent in TestHprof.makeStringInline ?
Does anyone know how I can find out things like exclusive time, percentage of total time.. for a method and all the methods it calls and all the methods they call.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks
Laura

I think you'll need to invoke -Xrunhprof with different options. JavaWorld has an old article which will probably help.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
