As many if you know there are a few bytecode optimization tools available. Two that stick out in my mind are Soot and DashO. Given that we have JIT compilers that also perform (often very good) method-per-method compile-time optimizations, are bytecode optimizations worth the trouble? Might they prevent good optimizations that the JIT compiler performs?
