Hello peeps,

i'm new to this forum, this is the first java forum i joined

my question is this, is it possible to analyse a LAN containing a single server and multiple clients in a tree type LAN configuration ?

By analysis what i mean is, i want to get the packet delay, the number of packets in the network, and other stuff (which i hope somebody would suggest)

i heard that there's this jpcap program or something but i dont know how to use it

The server's running Win2k and clients are all XP.

Waiting frantically for a reply

For packet sniffing and network analysis you need something closer to the hardware than Java. However you might be able to find Java based analysis programs to display the results.

Hello Mr.Arun Navaneetham

Hope u r KCT student right. U can find more details on jpcap in the following link www.jpcap.sourceforge.net or by googling with the search word jpcap. As Mr.William has suggested if u r moving more towards packet analysis better use tcpdump and c programs to get the results.

Another way to get the no. of packets moving in the network is to use the netstat -e command and route to a file to retrieve the Statistics.
