I have written my first java application using servlets and jsp. The main task is to collect information from user on a web form and save it on a unix file for processing. The results of the process are then saved on a different unix file before I assign them to a java string variable and display them on a web page as a result to the customer. Now the main problem is that sometimes just before the application can display the results, the server goes down and disables user connection. The output file is around 400kb.

I'm using solaris8 as an operating system,tomcat4.0.1 as my webserver and java 1.2.2.

Is this something to do with string limitation or with the tomcat performance? Any help will be appreciated.

Welcome to the Javaranch.
You are leaving out perhaps the single most important piece of information: what does the server logs say? That would clue you in to why the server is failing.
