best tool for performance monitoring?

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Which one is the best recognised, universal, most used, looks very impressive on resume kind of performance monitor tool/framework/API for Java application (both web and desktop)???

Thanks.

Honestly, none. It all depends on the application that you are profiling and the type of activity you are profiling. As far as the "impressive on resume" part goes, i dont think anyone gives much importance to the kinds of tools that you have used while testing your application for performance.

How is AppPerfect???

Had used it some time back. Has got good features, but i found it to be a heavy tool. I would rather prefer some other light profiler. We were testing our web application using AppPerfect and the machine on which we were carrying out the tests became very slow and unresponsive. There have been some new versions of this software that have been released after that, but i am not sure whether this aspect has been considered in their newer versions.

They do have a good support team, though. Very quick to respond to any queries/problems related to the profiler.

Take a look at javaperformancetuning.com

They've got alot of tool reports. I think what matters (when your
applying for a job) that you know the general principls behind
performance monitoring and how a general performance monitoring tool work - unless they are looking knowledge about a specific tool ofcause.
