Are there any good performance testing / profiling tools for Java? Something that checks speed and memory use for example?

I'm new to Java and would like to start cheap (even though performance testing is important). If there are such tools, is there anything free from Sun or Apache, etc.?

With a little knowledge, a cast iron skillet is non-stick and lasts a lifetime.
