Hi,

Can I write a flat file from Java containing 0.5 million of rows in it? Each row having 500 characters.

Java won't stop you. It can cope with files whose size fits in a 64-bit signed integer. If your file is bigger than that, congratulations!

Efficiently processing such a file could be challenging, but should be possible.

Beware though, some platforms have an os limit of 2GB.

yes for file size.
Old Unix systems, for instance.
Badly cluster'd FAT file systems.

Now, back in Version/System 7 days, 100 MB disks were expensive, so a 2GB limit was not a big deal
