Would you please suggest me a book that provides best practices/ways to improve performance of Java applications.

I found this book on google- " Java Performance Tuning, 2nd Edition by Jack Shirazi". Please let me know your views about this one.

The book is available on Amazon, but it doesn't look like there's an electronic version available.

Java Platform Performance is available online. It is not the most recent book, but the advice should hold up in newer VM's.

Somebody needs to tune that web site up. Every time I visit I'm quickly overwhelmed by the huge pages of unrelated suggestions with no logical order (i.e. big performance gains first, more specialized, granular tips last).
