Hi,
I am trying to display an error page when ever there is an exception occured in portlet, I have added these lines to web.xml

<error-page>
<exception-type>java.lang.Exception</exception-type>
<location>/ErrorPage.jsp</location>
</error-page>

But my portlet never redirects to an errorpage and instead displays the message "This portlet is unavailable."

Are you putting the error page in the portlet or the portal? Because if you put the error page in the portlet and it cannot find it, of course you are going to get a standard portal error. It can't very well display an error page it doesn't know exists.

Error page is in portlet.

I am using IBM Portal Server, It lets you define Rules specific to a page for example on click of any action I can return a value from method in backing bean and create a Rule for e.g. If return value is "Failure" then goto "ErrorPage.jsp". And this approach is working so it means ErrorPage is available to PortalServer.

But I dont want to define Rules for every portlet, instead I want to propogate the Exception and let portal server display an error page.

Yasir.
