My example:

public void processAction(ActionRequest request, ActionResponse response)
throws PortletException, IOException{

response.setRenderParameter("username", "aaaa");
response.setRenderParameter("a", "a");
response.setRenderParameter("b", "b");
response.setRenderParameter("c", "c");
request.getPortletSession ().setAttribute("a", "a");
request.getPortletSession().setAttribute("b", "b");
request.getPortletSession().setAttribute("c", "c");
request.setAttribute("a", "a");
request.setAttribute("b", "b");
request.setAttribute("c", "c");

public void doView(RenderRequest request,
RenderResponse response)
throws PortletException, IOException{

PortletRequestDispatcher dispatcher = getPortletContext().getRequestDispatcher(_view);
dispatcher.include(request, response);

<%@ page language="java"%>
<%@ taglib uri="" prefix="portlet"%>
<%@ taglib uri=" " prefix="c" %>
<%@ page isELIgnored="false" %>
<portlet efineObjects/>
<form action='<portlet:actionURL />'>
<table style="width: 200px;">

<td>User Name</td>
<input type="text" name="username" id="username" value="${username}"/>

<input type="submit" value="Save"/>

All the time EL doesn't want to put something on the screen.
I've got jstl.jar (1.2) and standard.jar (1.1.2) in my web-inf/lib.
I use Pluto 1.1.4.

Best regards
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
