accessing portal database?

Portal database stores user's information, based on this portal server provide functionalities like personalization etc.

But how to get that information accessible into portlet/code?

I am using web sphere portal server.

The User objects gives you access to some of this.

In WebSphere, look at the PUMA APIs (WebSphere Portal User Management API (PUMA)). This gives you access to user and group information.
