�Portlets has multiple states and modes
�Portlets has event and messaging capabilities

Portlets are independently developed, deployed, managed, and displayed
�Administrators can grant access to portlets based on user access rights
�Users can arrange portlets to create a customized WebSphere Portal page

Correction is required here - WebSphere Portal is NOT the ONLY portal but one of the portals. Portlets are used by portals as pluggable user interface components that provide a presentation layer to Information Systems.
