I downloaded the pluto 1.4 binary distribution, unzipped the distrobution into a directory Used startup.bat to start the portal (everything went fine upto here)

but when I browse to "http://localhost:8080/pluto/portal".

I Dont get a Display!!

I downloaded all the other versions and am having the same problem. Only Pluto 1.0.1 gives me a display but it doesn't show me an admin link on that page

Anyone can help.

Just for the heck of it I just tried to do this. It almost seems as if they want to make it deliberately hard to get Pluto to run. If you don't want the Pluto/Tomcat bundle, you need to
  • get the pluto-current-bin.tar.bz2 file, extract the web app war file from it, and drop it into Tomcat
  • get the pluto-current-container-bin.tar.bz2 file, and copy the jar files into the web app
  • get the Portlet specification API file from the JCP site, and copy the jar file into the web app
  • Now the web app will actually start up and I can see the login screen. Whew! (It still throws exception about missing Castor libraries, though.)
  • I probably still need to do the steps listed here in order to log in.
  • A bit later: Nope, even though I can now log in, there are multiple exceptions being thrown that prevent the page from being rendered (something about "Unable to retrieve portlet application descriptor: '/pluto', plus, it apparently really needs Castor).

  • You'd think that they'd make this as easy as possible; maybe it is if you use the Pluto/Tomcat bundle, but I'm betting that more people than not already have a servlet container running, and don't want another one.
