Digging up an old question again..
I have searched using search facility; but i could not track answer for this.
Ranchers please help..
thanks in advance.
Which method implementations will write the given string to a file named "file", using UTF8 encoding?
IMPLEMENTATION A:
public void write(String msg) throws IOException {
FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(new File("file"));
fw.write(msg);
fw.close();
}
IMPLEMENTATION B:
public void write(String msg) throws IOException {
OutputStreamWriter osw =
new OutputStreamWriter(new FileOutputStream("file"), "UTF8");
osw.write(msg);
osw.close();
}
IMPLEMENTATION C:
public void write(String msg) throws IOException {
FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(new File("file"));
fw.setEncoding("UTF8");
fw.write(msg);
fw.close();
}
IMPLEMENTATION D:
public void write(String msg) throws IOException {
FilterWriter fw = FilterWriter(new FileWriter("file"), "UTF8");
fw.write(msg);
fw.close();
}
IMPLEMENTATION E:
public void write(String msg) throws IOException {
OutputStreamWriter osw = new OutputStreamWriter(
new OutputStream(new File("file")), "UTF8"
);
osw.write(msg);
osw.close();
}

A and B work and C,D and E dont compile.
Since implementation B writes using UTF-8, its probably the correct answer.

Yes, when writing something to file using encoding system, either <code>OutputStreamWriter</code> or <code>FileWriter</code> can be used. <code>OutputStreamWriter</code> will let you explicitly indicate the encoding system while, <code>FileWriter</code> will use the default encoding system. In this question, if the default encoding system is "UTF8", A will also be the correct answer.
Similarly, reading from file using encoding system will concern either <code>InputStreamReader</code> or <code>FileReader</code>
Correct me if i am wrong.
