I don't understand why the people are moving their sites from www server to www2 ..even I observed www14 ..Are there any conventions in this? can anybody please explain me?

This just indicates that they wish to split the website load over more than one machine. Particularly on sites with a lot of heavy CGI processing, it can be important to use more than one machine to stop the site crashing and keep response times good.
You can get special "load balancer" systems which transparently redirect incoming requests to one of several machines, but splitting a site across several machines in the way you describe is a lot cheaper and easier.
