ip address of existing systems within the domain  RSS feed

Can any one tell me how can i get the IP ADDRESS of the systems(computers)that are in the network, by some command. Likely in java. Iam designing a application in which ALL THE IP ADDRESS OF THE SYSTEMS(COMPUTERS) THAT ARE IN A NETWORK(DOMAIN).

yah..I have read through it but I don't think there's a function to be called so that all existing ip addresses within the domain can be retrieve and displayed.
Could you give me more specific advices?

A solution I made (for fun if you believe it...) is this:
I knew all the IPs on our network were in a particular range, so i just looped through that range trying to open a socket to each IP. If a connection is accepted it is sometimes possible to get machine names.
I needed this cos I had a machine i could telnet to but didn't have the name or IP for so I had to find it by a process of elimination.
It's a long story.
