My friend asked me if I can write a program that will log in to his yahoo email account and download his messages directly to a file on his hard drive. Does anyone know how I could go abouts doing this? I'm a SCJP, so feel free to use the high tech lingo. Thanks for reading my post.

If your friend has not already signed up for pop3 with them have him do so. They'll let you use pop3 if you are willing to receive their 'special offers'. You can control this via 'Options' -> 'POP Access and Forwarding' at their web based interface. At this point your friend could use any standard mail client. If you still want to access it through Java anyway, you can use the JavaMail API. For details on JavaMail, visit Sun's site.
