The Java ranch is an excellent website but there is a question that I would like to ask.
Since the JavaRanch is for serious Java study so why is the WebSite consist of "Cartoon" like characters such as the Mousse in the left top corner.

Hi Tim
This should really be raised in the JavaRanch forum.
Some threads there that you can look at:
  • Is the moose unprofessional?
  • Javaranch's image discussion

  • Regards, Andrew

I'm moving this to the JavaRanch forum. (It started in Developer Certification.)

Who ever said we're for serious Java study?
We're for having fun with Java. And while we're serious about Java and serious about learning, we don't believe that our dedication precludes fun and enjoyment in the process.

I like Chocolate Mousse the best, but Strawberry is good too.

I actually tend to think that the Moose - nay, the whole Western theme - make JavaRanch more professional than many other sites. I mean, anybody can throw together a site like Sun's forums. It doesn't take much thought. However, this site has obvously had a lot of thought put into "theming." Since a lot of thought has been put into the theme, it seems logical that a lot of thought will have been put into the rest of teh site as well.
Saying that the cartoons are "unprofessional" are just like saying that having icons instead of text on buttons is "unprofessional." They are just a way to easily and visually identify the different sections of the website.
And the cartoons are really well done, btw...

    OFFICE POLICE VIOLATION!
Cartoons are inherently unprofessional. Employees who are found to have cartoons posted in the cubicles will be fired. If the cartoon is a Dilbert cartoon, the employee will be shot, prior to being fired.
