Why URL class

I am reading java.net and I can see we can use URL class to connect to any host and transfter its HTML file? why do I need that, any application from real life that required to use URL

URL, Uniform Resource Locator, deals with any type of resource, not just HTML files.
In general a URL is a way to specify to a task where to resource on the Internet in a standardized way. This standardization makes programs and knowledge transferable from task to task.
