Hi All,
I had a java application with RMI. When I perform Naming.lookup, the performance is very terrible for first time. If I place a entry (the rmi host ip addres) in Windows/System32/hosts, the performance will become normal ? Since I don't want make any change to client machine setting, is there any work around method ?
Thanks.

Do you have any idea what makes performance so terrible? Based on the improvement putting the machine in the hosts file gives, it might just be that your DNS server is abysmally slow or incorrectly set up.

Greetings Mr. Snoopy,
Welcome to JavaRanch, the absolute best site on the www for Java information. We don't have many rules around here, but we do have one. Please change your display name to a first and last name to conform with the JavaRanch Naming Policy.
You can change it here: Change your display name.
By the way, being an afficianado of the metaphysical, I've often wondered what happens to cartoon characters like yourself when their artists die. Maybe you could shed some light on that subject in the

Hi Peter,
After some investigation, support team had found out that the cause of slow response is not cause by dns lookup, the reason is caused by the windows OS. when use dns to lookup rmi server it will hold a short period of time before lookup but if I use IP address, the situation will not exist. did any one had met similar situation before ?
