hai all,
My system is connected in a network with amy other thro out the company. If i would to check the status of a connection to a particular host i use ping to do this which is very tedious for me.
I would like to make a jav application which will check for all the connection to the host that r connected to me and show it to me.
How to do this.

I don't suppose any of them are running an Echo service? If they are you could write a program to occasionally open a connection on port 7, write a String to that socket and read a reply back. If you get an exception, your host has a problem. If the other computers are not running Echo, writing a similar service is simple:
an echo-type service in java
You could make a pretty dashboard-like app that would show you the status of all the computers you are concerned with. Watch how many times you are pinging the computers, though. Don't want to overload them or the network with unnecessary traffic.
