Well, I'm not quite sure if this belongs here but I'll give it a try anyway (as I'm quite new to java).
Basically I want to know if there is a function that will connect to a proxy that I specify.

Eugene, I'm not sure I know what you are asking. I just have the address of a proxy server (with the port number) and I would like to connect to it and from there go on to access some other urls.

You might want to try a quick search on this forum for "proxy" and/or other relevant keywords to see if a past conversation might hold the answer for you.

Hi,
To access any other URLs on the Internet passing through a proxy, first you need to tell JVM about your proxy settings. You do that by setting system properties like this:
