I am just a new guy in java domain.I am thinking of doing a project of building a "net-conferencing" software.For that Ineed to learn lot about I/O and java.net.Please somebody tell me where to start from.Or the materials I can refer for building concepts on I/o and java.net?

Try starting with sockets before working up to other protocols like RMI or HTTP. You may find sockets are all you need for such a project. The Sun Socket Tutorial is good, or Google for "java socket tutorial" for more. Feel encouraged to sketch out some ideas in code and post it here for review and tips.
