Hi

Has anyone done a web application that integrate with chat messenger like msn or yahoo. Is it possible to put it in a web application? Or any other 3rd party chat system to integrate to web?
Thanks

One thing to keep in mind is that the programs that you've mentioned all run on statefull protocols (a steady connection is maintained between the client and server), Servlets and JSP are designed to operate over HTTP which is a stateless protocol (a new connection gets made and dropped for each hit).

You might have better luck finding people who've written chat apps in the Sockets and Internet Protocols forum.
Just ask, and the moderator of this forum will move it over there for you.

Yes, I do believe that would be more appropriate.

I have some code that will allow you to use the TOC2 protocol to send and receive messages through AIM. Its basic, you would have to expand it to support buddy lists, files, firewalls, etc.

It can be used as an AIM Bot. For example, your server starts up, autoloads a servlet, the servlet uses the lib to sign into AIM, on your desktop you send an IM to the server, the server parses the message, instantiates a handler for the messages, does somthing, and responds to you desktop IM client with the results.

Just to emphasize Ben's post, the app requires a statefull connection, -meaning you log in and the connection remains open.

If you think this code will be of some use; let me know and I will post it.

BTW: try searching; from what I remember when I was building my lib, there are plenty of java messengers around.
