Hi all,

I am sending some packets from the server to the client and have time stamp on them to see the latencies.. I am printing these times on the client side.. I see that there is a 50 ms delay for the first packet and then there is 2-3 ms delay for the remaining packets. Why would this be. By the way i am running this program on same system.

Also when when i run the program with UDP i am getting a 5% packet loss. Is that ok.
Thanks.

Are you using fqdn (dns name ) or ip address. If you are using fqdn then the delay for the first packet may be due to additional query to the name server. This will cause delay even on local system, if your name server is a different system. Once name is resolved, it will be cached for further communication.

Thanks.
