HI,
I was under the impression that in a read/write socket scenario, the reading peer will always get a -1 when socket.close() is performed at the writing end.
Is this understanding right? I would like to confirm this with experienced hands over here because I am getting ConnectionResetByPeer (IOException) once a while at the reading end. Almost 98% of cases, I am getting -1 and in some cases I get ConnectionResetByPeer. I cannot see the code at the writing-end since it is 3rd party, hence I don't know which scenario at the writer is causing this exception at the reader. Can somebody please help me understand when this would probably happen? Any hints?

Thanks a lot,
Jacob

This could happened in many area through out the network not just the server. I would strongly advice to have the debug on to figure thing out by setting the following:

System.setProperty("javax.net.debug", "all");
