I wrote my first RMI app today. Ridiculously simple.
There has to be more to this. What are some gotchyas? Is there an alternative to UnicastRemoteObject?

How did you learn about RMI? What books or sources of information did you use to learn some of it?
What do you (or others) recommend?
Thanks,
Michael

I read Just Java 1.2. He made it ridiculously simple.

Yes.
It was only a few pages long.
There was just something about the way he described it that made it seem off-hand simple.
If you like, I can upload the wee samples I made.

Just Java 1.2 (same as Just Java 2). By Peter van der Linden (I think he's the Java kernel team lead - so no one knows Java better).
Whenever I want to pick up something new in Java, or brush up, I go to this book first. The guy is an excellent writer.

As far as your question about UnicastRemoteObject; objects that require remote behavior must extend RemoteObject. The only non-abstract class under RemoteObject is UnicastRemoteObject which provides remote behavior across TCP.
