three new tin stars

The sheriffs and I spent a few weeks talking about appointing new sheriffs. The number of unique users per day has nearly doubled in the last few months, and limiting excellent bartenders to just one or two forums just seems downright goofy!
These three bartenders have made phenominal contributions to JavaRanch and I'm please as punch to give each of them a shiny new tin star.

Jessica and Valentin make sense, but I'm still amazed that I'm in this group. But I'm pleased that the subliminal hints I've been lacing my posts with for the past year have indeed finally paid off.
Thanks to everyone! I'm really honored to be part of this. And of course thanks most of all to Paul Wheaton, without whom there would be no javaranch. Just stop and think about that for a moment... where do you think Valentin, Jessica, Rob, Thomas, Map and all would be hanging out right now, if not here? Just imagine the sites and forums they'd be haunting... scary!

But I have a little disclaimer: Valentin and Jessica have to start working their butts off right now, but my official 'swearing in' won't be for another three weeks. Or Tim O'Reilly might personally show up at my door and kick my a**.
But once that book is out of our hands, Bert and I have sworn to keep a more reasonable schedule from that point on.
So for the next three weeks, I get to enjoy all the privileges, and wear the little outfit and everything (Cindy -- where'd you get that hat?), but I won't start my true sheriff-y duties until the book is done.

Sheriffs do what bartenders do, but in all the forums. And they get the keys to the whole saloon, so they can change all sorts of stuff. They also get the keys to the static pages (which reminds me, Jim, could you please make sure that the new sheriffs have said keys?)
Oh yeah, sheriffs have the ability to disable accounts, change names, signatures, titles and things like that.
Sheriffs often head up special projects.
Basically they do what they did before only now they have more tools.

Essentially, cowgirl was and is an honorary title, reflecting the fact that she started JavaRanch originally. But our posting software didn't actually give her any extra privieges until we made her a bartender, and now as a sheriff she gets even more. She still has the honorary cowgirl title, but now has actual power to go with it. (Insasmuch as any of us have "power" here.)
