Any advantages of serialized objects over RMI?

In otherwords, is there a situation which RMI might not handle and the need for the development of a socket/serialized object paradigm might be required?
Thanks.

Hi Gregory -
Your question is a bit of a wild card. RMI uses object serialization as a core protocol; the specification for RMI does nothing to guarantee or impede that. Invoking methods across JVM's has certain limits, but those are a matter of conscious design. It's hard to imagine another remote procedure call strategy that is more powerful, much less one that can do something RMI can't, except of course hook up two processes that aren't run by Java virtual machines.
