Hey there,
Does anyone know how to specify a static method in an .idl file?

I do not think you can. At least, that is my
interpretation of:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/guide/idl/jidlUsingCORBA.html#fifth

The client code's only way of issuing method
requests on a CORBA object is via the object's
object reference. The object reference is an
opaque structure which identifies a CORBA object's
host machine, the port on which the host server is
listening for requests, and a pointer to the
specific object in the process.

The client only invokes specific objects. Static
methods are not on specific objects.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
HTH,
Joe

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
