Is there any way to halt the rmiregistry so it will give up its port? I haven't been able to find that anywhere.
As an aside, can someone tell me if there is a command in linux to tell me all the ports that are bound/in use? I'm trying to learn both rmi and some linux for this project, so I'm new at all this stuff
thanks

I don't know if there's an official Java way of doing it, but in Linux, you should be able to find the process id with ps -waux| grep rmiregistry and then do kill (pid). Ports in use: something like netstat -ltp should work.
