sorry if my question seems too basic.

i have been studying RMI for some days now and i a yet to understand if it can help solve my problem.

problem definition:i have two laptops networked together.i want to be able to use java RMI to copy or view files in any of the laptops from either of them on which i may be working at the time.

can RMI achieve this for me or do i employ a different java method.

thanx in advance

You can use RMI to do this. Use the java.io.File class to get information about a file. Copy this information and the contents of the file over to the other computer through an RMI interface.

Are you doing this as an exercise in a class or "just to see if you can"? Because you can use FTP, built in networking, etc. to do the same without coding anything...
