Hi all,

just wondering whether anyone can help. Is it possible to make use of the new dynamic stub generation available to Java 1.5 in an RMI Client if your RMI service is running on 1.4?

eg RMI Client running on JDK 1.5 generating stubs dynamically for an RMI service running on JDK 1.4.

Has anyone got a conclusive answer as I cant seem to find any info on the web?

Yes. You can use the Jini package found at: http://www.jini.org/

Can I do it without using jini? From what I have read on the Sun site it seems possible to call a remote service running on 1.4 as long as the client runs on 1.5 using dynamic stub generation.

The client doen't generate the stub, the server does.

In 1.5 (and JERI (the extended rmi part of Jini) on 1.4) when the server exports the remote object, the stub is generated.
