NullpointerExceptin while creating rootPOA

I am getting exception when i was trying to create the rootPOA object like
POA rootPOA = POAHelper.narrow(orb.resolve_initial_references("ROOTPOA"));
I am not sure whether I need to include any more jar files into my classpath, or I need to set my properties, etc.
I am working with an example in Linux, with visibrokewr7.0, java1.5 versions.

Please help me in this regard.
