Hi Authors,

I am new to JSF, but I have worked with JSPs, JSTL, EL. When I compare those with JSF, I really find JSF difficult. especially, without any if, foreach, choose of jstl. h:dataTable doesn't seem to fullfill the needs at time.
I would like to know, what does your book suggest to newbies like me?

You're hitting a common experience in that the core set of components that come "out of the box" from the spec - namely "JSF Core and HTML" libraries are a little bit basic. This is actually because these were meant to serve as "base" components from which the Open source community and vendors can then take off and enhance upon these base or spec components.

I would definitely recommend checking out the enhanced set of components provided with MyFaces. These are open source and provide more advanced functionality than the basic spec components.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
