As far as i know, the JSF component tree is maintained at the session level in the FacesContext object.
I recently read this :"the application may declare that the component instances should not be saved on the server between requests, due to memory usage concerns."
Does this mean that the component can be prevented from bein persisted in the FacesContext object?Which property is that - and how is it done?

Yes you can declare context parameter something (don't remember exactly) like "SAVE_ON_SERVER" in web.xml and you can pass true or false for its values. If its true then the tree will be saved in session (Or Server side) and if its value is false then the tree will be saved on client side using html hidden fields on the page and will be constructed on each request by retrieving it from the hidden fields.

Hope it helps.
