Basically, I want to use commandMenuItem as a drop down menu. I would imagine that on the mouse over, a managed bean needs to be called that creates a menuList. I am not sure how to create the menulist programmatically. Could someone please help me and tell me if this is even possible... THANKS!

Mouseover isn't something that managed beans do. They're back on the server, and the server doesn't see mouse movements. No HTTP app can, since that's not part of the protocol (and it would be horribly slow and jerky if it was).

What you need is a component that has client-side (JavaScript) support for such behavior. Check out the JSCookMenu. I think it's more or less what you want.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
