This seems like it should be really simple, but I'm not getting it. I want to have a page with several panels. Initially the panels wouldn't have any functional data. After the page loads, I would like to fetch the contents of each panel asynchronously. That way, if the contents of one panel has data latency issues, the page and the other panels will not be blocked.

At page load, the structure might look like this.

<rich anel id="one">
Nothing Yet
</rich anel>

<rich anel id="two">
Nothing Yet
</rich anel>

I suppose I could use <a4j oll> and load it only once, but that seems kludgy.

Help for the simple minded, please!!

Your main limitation is HTTP, since HTTP doesn't allow a server to "push" stuff to a client, only to provide a response to a client request. In the case of AJAX, it's the client's JavaScript code that makes those asychronous partial page requests.

Each HTTP request is essentially atomic, so you can't say specifically to deliver parts of a page at different times.
