Some people mention that we haven't full control over look and feel in JSF, is it right?

Well, technically, JSF is supposed to be isolated from the look and feel - that stuff should all goes into the renderkit layer. The standard HTML renderkit then attempts to defer to CSS where possible, which ultimately passes it out of the domain of JSF entirely.

However, the other consideration about JSF is what it allows you to construct. JSF is fairly abstract - for example, the datatable construct as opposed to doing iterations in the view. In the sense that there's only a fairly small number of constructs, that's limiting. On the other hand, it's an extensible system.

So I suppose it depends. :p
