Hello ,
I am getting a Http 404 error and understand that it means that resource being accessed is not available

This is an app deployed in Tomcat
Simple JSF app

Scenario 1 ::
Here is the portion of the web.xml ::

My application is deployed under "webapps" in tomcat as :: " jsfExamples "

The URL that I try is ::
http://localhost:8080/jsfExamples/faces/pages/authentication/login.jsp
( This works fine )

This gives 404 ::
http://localhost:8080/jsfExamples/faces/pages/authentication/login.jsf

Here pages / authentication are folders under context .

Scenario 2 ::
If I change the web.xml servlet mapping to ::

Then I try this URL ::
http://localhost:8080/jsfExamples/pages/authentication/login.jsp

The page never loads and just keeps hanging

Nothing in logs too

Scenario 3 ::

web.xml ::

Tried this URL ::
http://localhost:8080/jsfExamples/pages/authentication/login.jsp

Got the following error ::

Thanks ,
~satish
