Is there an IDMS driver for O/R mapping?

Greetings, all. I am learning all about the whole O/R scene, and it looks like a good solution for us. My question is, can tools like Hibernate map to an IDMS (mainframe) database? I have a JDBC driver for IDMS, so could Hibernate connect through that?

The SQL you use to manage IDMS via the IDMS JDBC driver is a little different from standard SQL, however, so I'm guessing that support for IDMS would have to be built into the product?

These are newbie questions, I know, but I would certainly appreciate any and all feedback on the matter. I'd be glad to clarify anything that I've said. Thanks!

I would imagine that you could do it, especially since you have a JDBC driver for it. The problem you would face, as you pointed out, is the non-standard SQL that is required. However, the Hibernate folks have done a good job abstracting away the vendor-specific SQL stuff. You could implement a new "dialect" for your specific platform. If you do end up creating one, I would submit it to the Hibernate folks to see if they might want to include it in the core product. Maybe some other people can benefit from your hard work. ;-) Enjoy!

Thanks for the info. I downloaded the code, and also contacted the Hibernate folks. It certainly appears that I can write a new dialect. I'll keep plugging away...
