String Index Out Of Bounds Exception

Hi,

I am new to Hibernate.
I have faced java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException in hibernate related query that i have created using HQL.

Error:

Unhandled Exception thrown: class java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException

In DAO Class:

public List getCourseContentLinkForCourseContentMenu(Long id)
{
return getHibernateTemplate().find("from CourseContentLink where CRS_CNTNT_MENU_ID =?",id);
}

In my Service Class:

public List getCourseContentLinkForCourseContentMenu(Long id)
{
return courseContentLinkDAO.getCourseContentLinkForCourseContentMenu(id);
}

In my Action class:
List list = courseDesignService.getCourseContentLinkForCourseContentMenu(crsCntMenuForLinks.getId());

Could any one help me to solve this problem.

hi

Does your CourseContentLink contain a property (and getter/setter method) named CRS_CNTNT_MENU_ID ? Probably this is the column name ? In hibernate queries you work with Objects/Object Properties and not with Tables/Columns.

So your query might look like:

return getHibernateTemplate().find("from CourseContentLink ccl where ccl.menu.id =?", id);

if this does not help: are you shure this exception is raised in the query ? because your stacktrace does not show anything about hibernate... can you post the full trace ?

Thanks for reply. I tried as you said in the last response. But I get the same error.

First I want tell the technology that we are using for our project is Struts and Spring and Hibernate. For Hibernate we are crated Entity class (CourseContentLink) and .hbm.xml (CourseContentLink.hbm.xml) and DAO class (CourseContentLinkDAO). We are using spring as service layer between Struts and Hibernate.

Here there are two entities namely CourseContentMenu and CourseContentLink. The relationship between these two are one-to-many. CourseContentMenu is parent and CourseContentLink is child. In my project there is situation in that I need to access that all the CourseContentLink based on that parent id (CourseContentMenu). I show some configuration related file

ok, here is what is causing the problem:

and this is the relevant code from the hibernate source

  
public Object get(ResultSet rs, String name) throws SQLException {
String str = rs.getString(name);
if (str==null) {
return null;
}

return new Character( str.charAt(0) );
}
} 

unless the line numbers in your stacktrace and my source files differ this is the line making you jump around:

str.charAt(0)

So you get a empty String from the DB where hibernate expects a String of (at least) length 1.
I can not find any char mappings in your hbm files ?
