Hi to all.

From "Pro Hibernate 3":

The <hibernate-mapping> Attributes:

.....

catalog: The database catalog against which queries should apply.

What the heck is a database catalog???

In my experience, the usage and the meaning of the terms "database", "catalog" and "schema" depends on which DBMS you are using. Roughly, they are used to group the tables into bigger logical units that may be called "schema" in Oracle, "catalog" in MySQL, etc.

Thanks. So in this case it actually means the "database name"? In MySQL the "database name" is a logical group of database tables.

In line with the above, I believe that the meaning of these terms depends on the dialect, that is, to Hibernate they mean the same as to the specific DBMS; at least I haven't found their definitions in Hibernate.
