Get yourself Beginning Hibernate: From Novice to Professional and also don't forget to read the Hibernate Reference documentation.

Or get Hibernate in Action

I think Hibernate in Action is replaced by Java Persistence with Hibernate. I found this book a bit difficult to follow.

+1. I purchased Java Persistence with Hibernate a few weeks ago because I had heard so many great things about Hibernate in Action. I'm greatly disappointed. Reading this book is slightly more enjoyable than being beaten by rabid clowns. But not by much.

If we add to this another recent thread that starts with complaints about "Hibernate in action"/"Java persistence with Hibernate" not being interesting, that may be enough to discourage more than a few readers. Personally, while I also would not put "Java Persistence with Hibernate" high on the interesting/entertaining/enjoyable
scale, I find it readable, and more importantly, useful.

Noted. Perhaps it's useful for someone that already knows Hibernate well and simply wants clarification on a small topic every once in a while. I'd like to think that it will eventually become useful to me in this way. But for learning Hibernate, I've found that the documentation that comes packaged with Hibernate more useful and enjoyable.
